Juma gave an oral report on the Darfur conflict

Dynamite

No, not Juma's favorite song, but actual dynamite. Someone is building a house right next door and in preparation is blowing up some large boulders with dynamite. Juma has always hated loud noises, so he used noise-canceling headphones with the music pumped up to block out the blast.

Elephant herd #1

After an afternoon of driving around Ruaha national park, we sat in a little open hut to relax and wait until dinner time. As we chatted, we noted how the campsite was just in the middle of the park and that animals could come wandering through at any time. This scared Juma a bit, and he asked if there actually were any animals nearby right then. Someone joked, "Yes, there is a whole herd of elephants crossing the river right now!"

It was just a joke, but we turned around and saw that there really were elephants crossing the river! And quite close to us and our sleeping huts. It was both scary and beautiful.

Writing a report in the dark

He was very serious about this, working straight through an electricity outage, and asking if could stay up a little late in order to finish it. It is about the Darfur conflict.
