we're in Pemba

Hello all,

We're in Pemba now. We've been very busy setting up a new household and getting to know our neighbors. Sarah has had to make significant changes to her project, but it looks like she'll get some great stuff done. I'm plowing through my books and playing some basketball.

Most importantly, though, I'm putting in some serious World Cup watching time. Wow, if you haven't been watching, it's time to start. I gathered outside with a group of about 50 people yesterday around the only TV in our neighborhood to watch Ghana play Brazil. I won't disparage the referees except to say "They sucked!" Ghana represented us Africans well.

More later, as internet connection permits.

Here's a wikipedia entry on our new home: Pemba

We live in a town called Chake Chake.

Sounds like you're doing okay. What's Juma's take on all this. He's so cool with new things, I'll bet he's doing just fine. Take care and don't get involved with the politicos! Love you guys,
Grandpa Beckham

Sarah and Justin

It's Julie Johnson (aka Mosi). I have been thinking of you a lot. Justin I am so with you on the refs for the Brasil - Ghana game. I was angry. But emotions ran high because I was watching the game in Accra. I wanted Ghana to win real bad. I appeared on the radio that morning on Hot FM - a radio station in Accra (there is a very funny story behind that one - but maybe I can tell you later). I spent almost three weeks in Ghana visiting the BYU field study program up in Mampong for Dave - he is still a little bit of commission since hurting his leg last December. I really loved Ghana. It reminded me in many ways of Tanzania. I am happy you are both back there. I love that you have a blog and I can hear how you all are via the blog. Well, thanks for keeping us all updated.
